Looking to the Future

Written by: Bruce Walker, Founder @ WeAreTheFuture

Big changes are happening at WeAreTheFuture HQ and I'm really excited to share them with you!

Last year was a great year for everyone at WeAreTheFuture.

We celebrated 5 years of the Startup Summit with our biggest and best event to date, with entrepreneurs flying in from all over the world to take part. We launched our first ever Impact Summit in London focusing on business as a force for good, as well as growing and developing entrepreneurship programmes in Silicon Valley, Berlin, Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

We also co-founded FutureX, along with Adam Purvis and Emma Wellingham as an organisation using entrepreneurship to tackle some of the worlds greatest challenges.

In 2017, WeAreTheFuture will deliver the Silicon Valley Accelerate programme for the UK's top tech entrepreneurs and host the London Impact Summit to bring together the world's most impactful entrepreneurs, to 'build a better world through business'. We will also launch the Berlin Summit for creative entrepreneurs and host the 6th annual Startup Summit in Edinburgh on the 1st November.

This year will also see us saying good bye to our Chairman, Russell Dalgleish who has decided to step down after nearly 4 years as Chair. Russell joined the board in the early days of WeAreTheFuture and helped us grow from a small student project into an international organisation that has worked with over 5000 entrepreneurs across Europe, US, the Middle East and Asia.

Russell has been an incredible supporter, adviser and friend over the last 4 years and I have so much to thank him for. Although he is stepping down in a formal capacity I've no doubt he will remain a close friend and personal mentor.

As we look to the future, WeAreTheFuture will continue to focus on it's core mission of inspiring and connecting entrepreneurs around the world, while FutureX will open up new and exciting opportunities.

Leveraging our international network, we're building ecosystems of entrepreneurs, corporate growth partners and governments that are collectively committed to instigating change in their businesses and their communities to build a better world through business.

As well as delivering projects like DataFest and EIE China for our partners and clients, we are focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) in partnership with Power of Youth, working with our Growth Partners to instigate real change and opportunity.

In 2017 the SDG's we're working on are:

1) Hydro Nations; a platform to build, collate and scale water technologies, powered by Nations and organisations committed to solving the worlds most challenging issues in water.

2) Food & Drink sector, targeting zero hunger and responsible consumption & production,

3) Sustainable Fashion and Supply Chains, again focused on responsible consumption and production, and

4) Renewable Energy and Low Carbon construction, with a core focus on sustainable cities and communities and climate change.

It's going to be a big year and I can't wait!

If you want to get involved or think we can work together towards building a better world through business then I'd love to chat.

All the best for 2017 folks!
